Entry-Level Requirements

Age

Minimum age of 18 for both volunteer and paid firefighters.

Education

High school diploma or GED.

Health

Must be in good physical health. A doctor’s report is required for eligibility.

Driving

Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license with no suspensions in the past 24 months.

Conduct

No felony convictions within 10 years; no DUI in the last 24 months.

Residency (for volunteers only)

Must be a Bradley County resident, ideally within the district served.

Probationary Period

A 6-month probationary period is required, with possible extension based on the recommendation of the Battalion Commander.

Volunteer Process

1.Application Submission

Candidates can submit their applications online or in person at HQ.

Background Check and Interview

Applicants will undergo a background check and formal interview with the Command Staff.

Training

Volunteers must attend training every Thursday at 1800 hours and complete a 16-hour Intro to Firefighter Safety course before participating in any incidents.

Volunteer Training

1.Schedule

Volunteers receive the same training schedule as full-time staff, except for Emergency Medical Responder courses.

TN Commission on Firefighting Education Incentive Pay Program

Volunteers are eligible for the TN Commission on Firefighting Education Incentive Pay Program if they meet the certification requirements.

Brett Dunn
Battalion Commander Volunteer

joined the Cleveland Bradley County Rescue Service in October 2004. After the merger of Bradley County Fire and the Rescue Service, he continued his training and was assigned to Station 8 as a firefighter. In 2009, he was promoted to Lieutenant at Station 8, a position he held until 2012, when he was promoted to Commander of the Volunteer Company. He continues to serve in this role today.
